BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS
The 5 Love Languages of Children, by Dr. Gary D. Chapman
The 5 Love Languages of Teens, by Dr. Gary D. Chapman
Want to know the secret of making sure your child feels loved? Kids desperately need to know how much you love them. But if you don’t know their special ‘love language’ you might as well be speaking gibberish. These books will help you discover what love language your child speaks and how to speak their language.
Grace Based Parenting, by Dr. Tim Kimmel
This study will show you how to meet the true needs of every child and create a home in which your children will thrive. Instead of a manual full of checklists and impossible standards, grace based parenting lays out a road map for parenting the way God parents us—with grace!
Single Parenting That Works, by Kevin Lehman
Dr. Lehman encourages single parents to build healthy relationships with ex-spouses and to raise their children to love and honor the Lord. It is designed to help parents understand that they are not alone in the challenges they face., and provides practical, biblically sound guidance on being loving, caring, and effective parents to help their children.
5 Conversations to Have With Your Daughter, by Vicki Courtney
Five Conversations is full of sensible, biblical advice backed up by extensive social and medical research, and relevant quotes from the Bible. The author also reassures us that "God is more than enough to make up for my parenting insufficiencies along the way". She makes it clear that the five conversations referred to in the title are not one-off conversations, but ongoing life lessons, to be modeled and reinforced at any available 'teachable moment'. The five conversations are:
- 1 You Are More Than the Sum of Your Parts
- 2 Don't Be in Such a Hurry to Grow Up
- 3 Sex Is Great and Worth the Wait
- 4 It's OK to Dream about Marriage and Motherhood!
- 5 Girls Gone Wild Are a Dime a Dozen--Dare to Be Virtuous
Bringing Peace and Harmony To The Blended Family, by Kevin Lehman
Lehman helps prepare your family for the challenges and rewards of blending step-families.
5 Conversations to Have With Your Son, by Vicki Courtney
In an age where being a man is probably the hardest it has ever been, this book is a refreshing guide to Christian parents seeking to raise Godly sons in an ungodly world. It's goal is to help parents tell their children the truth about life before they believe culture's lies. The five conversations are listed below:
- Conversation 1: Don't define manhood by the culture's wimpy standards. It's OK to be a man!
- Conversation 2: What you don't learn to conquer may become your master
- Conversation 3: Not everyone's doing it! (And other naked truths about sex you won't hear in the locker room.)
- Conversation 4: Boyhood is only for a season. P.S. It's time to grow up!
- Conversation 5: Godly men are in short supply. Dare to become one!
The books suggested here are good jumping off points. We realize that there will never be a book printed on parenting that each of us agrees with 100%, however each one gives us cause for evaluation and discussion. We ask you to bear this fact in mind as you read any of these suggestions.
Child Safety
CHILD SAFETY
Child safety is so important to us at WACC, which is why we use an electronic check-in system that allows us to look out for your child in the best way possible. Once you've registered your child with our WACC Kids Check-in Staff, you can type your phone number into one of our computers to check your child in. Printed name tags allow the teachers to know your child’s name, any medical/allergy information that you provide, along with the guardian who checked them in. Guardian receipts are printed with corresponding pager numbers that connect you to your child, to ensure that your child is returned safely with the guardian who checked them in.
